With more than 55 years of academic excellence, Liceo Panamericano Samborondón offers a multilingual education enriched by Cambridge certifications and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum.Since 1969, we have nurtured compassionate, multilingual leaders by fostering academic excellence, global awareness and continuous growth. Our students earn the IB English certificate and more than 80% achieve Cambridge proficiency levels from B2 to C2. Through international experiences and a strong values-based education, they grow into confident, happy young people with a strong sense of belonging, ready to make a positive difference in the world.
Foundation
Founded by a group of visionary educators, our school was created to provide a well-rounded education rooted in excellence, strong values and social responsibility.

With enthusiasm and commitment, LPS opened its doors and began a journey of educational excellence and character development.

EFQM Model
Through the implementation of the EFQM European Excellence Model, a framework that supports change management and drives continuous improvement, LPS earned its First Star, reaffirming its commitment to quality and excellence.
New certifications
We achieved ISO 9001-2008 certification and opened our Preschool and Primary schools, as well as our headquarters in Samborondón.
EFQM Second Star
We earned our EFQM Second Star and began the authorisation process for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, strengthening our commitment to high standards, continuous improvement and a globally minded education.
Certifications and alliances
We achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, earned the EFQM Third Star and formed partnerships with some of the country’s leading universities.
International projection
We continued our journey towards the EFQM Fourth Star, introduced Learning Pathways and built partnerships with international institutions, enriching opportunities for our students.

Liceo Panamericano Samborondón joined ISP, giving students a global network, collaborative learning opportunities, and the skills to thrive as true global citizens.
PYP authorisation
We achieved authorisation for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and began implementing the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), strengthening our commitment to internationally minded learning at every stage.
EFQM Fifth Star
We became the only school in Ecuador to achieve the EFQM Fifth Star under the 2020 model, reaffirming our position as a leader in education.
Campus expansion
The foundation stone for our new Samborondón campus was laid, marking the beginning of a new chapter of growth and innovation.
IB MYP authorisation
We achieved authorisation for the Middle Years Programme (MYP), received ISP’s School of Choice recognition and opened our new campus, marking an important step forward in our growth and educational journey.
Double recognition
We were named ISP’s School of Choice and achieved the EFQM Sixth Star for educational excellence.
New international recognition
We received ISP’s School of Choice recognition for the third consecutive year, consolidating our position as a leader in education.
In 1969, María Teresa Solá de Estrada and a group of distinguished educators founded an educational project with a clear purpose: to shape generations of students through strong values, critical thinking and a commitment to service.Their vision laid the foundations for a lasting legacy of educational excellence.
In May 1970, Liceo Panamericano Samborondón officially began its academic journey. This important milestone marked the start of a path shaped by meaningful learning, educational innovation and a strong values-based approach.It was the beginning of a journey that would soon establish the school as a benchmark for educational excellence.
In 1981, the leadership of LPS passed to a new team led by Rector Clemencia Miranda de Manrique. Under her leadership, key initiatives were introduced to strengthen educational quality, reinforce the school’s identity and expand opportunities for students’ academic and personal growth.
This year marked an important milestone with the opening of our Secondary school, enabling us to support students throughout their educational journey.With modern facilities and a well-rounded approach, we reaffirmed our commitment to high-quality education at every stage of learning.
The adoption of the bilingual model marked a defining moment in our history. English became an essential tool for communication, innovation and critical thinking, preparing our students to thrive in multicultural environments.
Under the leadership of Dr Carlos E. Ortega, we took an important step forward in our journey towards excellence. The implementation of the EFQM model strengthened internal processes, enhanced academic leadership and helped embed a culture of quality that had a direct impact on our students’ learning experience.
This year marked an important period of growth for our school.Achieving ISO certification recognised the high standards of our educational management and quality, while the opening of new sections allowed us to welcome students into a modern, safe and nurturing environment from the very beginning of their learning journey.
With Dr Patricia Ayala de Coronel joining the school as Rector, a new chapter of innovation and excellence began. The achievement of the EFQM Second Star and the journey towards IB authorisation strengthened our school’s global outlook, reinforcing its commitment to developing leaders with critical thinking, strong values and a sense of social responsibility.
This year was marked by significant institutional achievements. Alongside earning the EFQM Third Star, we established partnerships with universities such as UEES, Ecotec and Argos, creating new academic opportunities for our students. We also welcomed our first candidates for the IB Diploma Programme.
In 2018,we strengthened our global outlook by becoming a candidate school for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The introduction of new methodologies and partnerships with organisations such as International House further reinforced our commitment to educational innovation and international learning.
This was a transformative milestone for Liceo Panamericano Samborondón school as they became a proud member of International Schools Partnership - ISP.
As a member of ISP, Liceo Panamericano Samborondón maintained its unique ethos while also reaping the rewards of being part of one of the world’s largest and most respected school groups.
These benefits included a variety of international learning opportunities for our students, such as cultural exchange programs, and global collaboration projects and competitions, which provide students with experiences and connections that span borders and cultures. The world just became our classroom.
With this authorisation, LPS took an important step towards becoming an International Baccalaureate Continuum school. The PYP approach fosters enquiry, creativity and meaningful learning, strengthening an innovative educational environment focused on the all-round development of every student.
This recognition marked a historic milestone for us. It reflected our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence across every area of school life. We also strengthened our IB PYP accreditation, reaffirming our position as a leading school for educational quality and innovation in the region.
This expansion project reflected our vision for the future. Designed to inspire creativity, support technology and encourage collaborative learning, the new campus represented the continued growth of our school while staying true to our values and educational purpose.
This important milestone was marked by the presence of Emily Porter, Juan Romero, Dr Patricia Ayala de Coronel, Samborondón Vice Mayor Carlos Alvear and architect José Gómez, who joined us for this special occasion.
We received ISP’s School of Choice recognition, marking an important milestone for our educational community. We also achieved authorisation for the MYP, completing the IB Continuum and strengthening our offer of a truly international, well-rounded education. The opening of our new campus brought together tradition and innovation, creating a state-of-the-art learning environment designed to support every student’s development.
At the International Schools Partnership’s annual conference in Santiago, Chile, we received prestigious recognition for our academic leadership and commitment to innovation and were proudly named an ISP School of Choice.In the same year, we also achieved the EFQM Sixth Star, reaffirming our position as an international benchmark for educational quality.

At LPS, IB students consistently achieve results above the global average in Spanish A (5-7), Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (4-7) and other subjects. In addition, 100% obtain the IB English Certificate, demonstrating an advanced level of English recognised internationally.
Our educational approach is grounded in a well-rounded education, Christian-Catholic values, bilingual education and the International Baccalaureate Programme. This is further reinforced by ISO 9001:2015 certification, awarded by SGS, which reflects our commitment to quality and efficient processes.
In addition, all students take part in external assessments such as MAP Growth, which measure Mathematics, Language Usage, Reading and Science. These insights help personalise learning and strengthen academic development.
From the early years, students build strong English proficiency, supported by international assessments that monitor and guide their progress. By the end of Primary, 70% reach an intermediate level, while during the middle years more than 80% achieve advanced or proficient levels, preparing them for entry to leading international universities. From Grade 5, students also study French, adding a third language to their learning journey. Trips to the United Kingdom offer valuable opportunities to use English in real-life contexts, strengthen cultural confidence and experience authentic learning, enriching both academic and personal development.
At LPS, students grow into well-rounded individuals through development across four key dimensions. Spiritually, they are guided by Catholic values and pastoral care. Cognitively, they build critical and creative thinking through the IB and Cambridge programmes. Physically, they develop healthy habits through sport and wellbeing initiatives, including football, basketball and volleyball. Socially and emotionally, they strengthen emotional regulation and personal wellbeing through the Emotions Lab programme, preparing them to thrive in school and beyond.

At LPS, students begin planning for their future from an early stage, supported by personalised guidance and access to the ISP Future Pathways programme.Through university fairs, they connect with 100+ institutions and explore opportunities for scholarships covering up to 100% of tuition fees. As a result, 86% secure a place at one of their first-choice universities, while 29% go on to study abroad, with leading destinations including the US and Canada.
Our students’ wellbeing is a priority at every stage of their development. We attend to every detail through rigorous recruitment processes and the continuous professional development of our team, creating a secure and nurturing environment built on trust.In addition, students benefit from ongoing support from psychologists and medical staff, ensuring a holistic approach that supports their personal and emotional development.
Our students take part in 10+ ISP's International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOs), including Scientists, Cultural Exchange, Changemakers, Filmmakers, Artists, Chess Masters, MUN, Virtual Exchange and TEDxYouth@ISP.
They also represent LPS in global experiences such as Model United Nations in Malaysia and Geneva, robotics competitions in Japan and STEAM immersions in London. At Liceo Panamericano Samborondón, we enrich the educational experience through distinctive programmes that nurture students’ talents, strengthen values and broaden their understanding of the world.
Through our Skating School, students develop physical confidence, coordination and discipline in a dynamic and motivating environment. As they strengthen balance, endurance and resilience, they also build confidence and a strong sense of personal achievement. The experience further nurtures values such as effort, perseverance and teamwork. Schedule: Group 1: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm, and Saturdays from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm. Through our high-level Chess School, students develop strategic thinking, concentration and confidence in decision-making. As they strengthen cognitive skills such as memory, problem-solving and analysis, they also learn the value of patience, planning and anticipation.

We integrate learning through play within a dynamic and stimulating environment. Our Play Program&Learn approach supports students’ cognitive, social and emotional development through engaging experiences that spark curiosity and inspire creativity. In this way, students learn naturally, meaningfully and actively, strengthening both their motivation and their confidence as explorers of the world around them.Schedule: 1.05 pm to 5.30 pm. We offer a unique international experience in England, where students immerse themselves in the language and culture while developing their English in an authentic, real-world setting over the course of a month. Learners attend classes, stay with carefully selected host families and take part in enriching cultural activities. They build independence, strengthen their social skills and develop a truly global outlook, always supported by teachers from the school.
